Founded in 1918 on 840 acres along the Scioto River, Upper Arlington was one of the earliest examples of a "planned community". Today it covers an area of 9-2/3 square miles and boasts a population of 35,686. Its location makes it convenient to The Ohio State University campus and downtown Columbus (a 10-15-minute commute), yet it retains the flavor of an older, established, tree-lined residential community.
From the stately homes bordering the prestigious Scioto Country Club to smaller ranch-style houses in more modest neighborhoods, Upper Arlington homes range from about $100,000 to over $1 million.
Residents take great pride in their community and work together to offer excellent city services, cultural events and activities such as the locally famous 4th of July Parade and the Labor Day Arts Festival. The city boasts 3 libraries, 17 parks, 35 tennis courts, 3 pools and many recreational programs for residents of all ages.
Upper Arlington Schools are among the best in Ohio, placing third in the state on the 9th grade proficiency exam. There are 5 elementary schools, including an "alternative" elementary school which was opened in 1988, 2 middle schools and 1 high school, offering a wide variety of courses and extra-curricular activies. |
